I am here to reduce your stress, help you be compassionate with yourself, and teach you how to live a full, balanced life while regaining your health and vitality.
My history:
My journey with naturopathic medicine began during my last year of undergraduate school, when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Six years later, after all the pharmaceuticals indicated for my condition had failed and my symptoms continued to worsen, my gastroenterologist determined that the only option was to undergo surgery to remove my colon. The surgery would have been “curative,” but it also would have taken away my ability to bear children. I felt that there had to be another way. Through self-study and dietary changes, I was able to become healthy enough to regain control of my life. With a move to Portland, Oregon, I discovered naturopathic medicine. I began seeing a naturopathic physician who actually listened, and then taught me about my disease and the foundations of health. She encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a physician, and now I am ready to help you learn how to heal as well.
How I can help you:
I think life is about balance, and people are so busy and stressed and pulled in too many different directions to be able to make “the healthy choice” every time. Life is about living, making connections, and enjoying yourself. I think they key to health and happiness is finding the balance between living like there’s no tomorrow and taking care of your body so you can enjoy the rest of your life.
I’m far from perfect, and I’m not afraid to shout it from the rooftops. I’m a mother to two busy boys, a doctor, a business owner, a wife, sister, daughter, and friend to many. I understand stress and don’t expect my patients to do everything perfectly, because I can’t do that myself (and I have yet to find anyone that can)!
And now, my official bio:
I earned my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in 2019 from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. I have been amazed since childhood at the intricate, self-regulating, and ordered nature of the human body. I believe in the ability of the body to heal itself, provided that it is given what it needs to regain its vitality. I work with my patients to determine the root cause of their imbalance. I am passionate about educating patients and empowering them to take charge of their own journey towards health – because that’s where the real healing begins. I combine modalities such as nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, botanicals, and biotherapeutic drainage to support my patients on their path to wellness. Although trained as a primary care physician, my passions include gastrointestinal conditions, autoimmune disease, fatigue, and chronic illness.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two boys. You’ll likely find us outside (rain or shine!) in the back yard, on a mountain, or on the beach. In rare moments of solitude, I love to read most of all – preferably with a warm fire in front of me and a cup of tea in my hand.
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic physicians practice a distinct healing art, guided by the principles of naturopathic medicine:
First Do No Harm
The Healing Power of Nature
Identify and Treat the Cause
Doctor as Teacher
Treat the Whole Person
Prevention
Licensed naturopathic doctors (NDs) attend four year accredited naturopathic medical schools, where they are trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology, immunology, biochemistry, and pharmacology. In addition to these conventional medical school courses, they are also extensively trained in botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, IV therapy, and minor surgery. Clinical training, under the supervision of attending physicians at school and community clinics, is incorporated into the last three years of naturopathic medical school. After graduation, NDs must pass a national board exam to become licensed to provide care to their communities.
